イケシオ。
以前からブログ(ブログ独国奮闘記)で何度も書いてますが、オレはバドミントンのイケシオを熱烈応援しています。
2人は今オリンピックに出場中なので、ちょっと紹介させてください。
池田信太郎はオレの大学の同期でそれ以来の仲なのですが、学生時代はそこまでツルんだりするような仲ではありませんでした。
それが、卒業してからもお互い現役という道を選び、競技・レベルは違えど、真剣に自分の道に突き進んでいることが、お互いのリスペクトに繋がっていきました。
オレのブログを見て連絡をくれた信太郎とメールのやり取りが増え、帰国した際には食事したり、相談し合う仲になって。
同じアスリートとして、わが道を行く同士として、不安も夢も語り合いながら励ましあってきました。
信太郎は友人の中でも、面と向かって
「オレはお前を尊敬しているし、大好きだ」
と言える本当に数少ない奴です。
だから、少々キツいことでも思ったことははっきり言い合います。
一見ふざけんな、って思うような内容でも、相手を傷つけるために言っているのではありません。
絶対的信頼関係があると信じて、その上での言い合いです。
だから、大体話し合いでまとまる、そんな仲です。
そんな信太郎と4年前からペアを組んでいる潮田玲子ちゃん。
日本ではオグシオで一世を風靡した美女バドミントンペアの1人ですよね。
本当に可愛らしく、素敵な女性で、ファンの方もめっちゃ多いと聞きます。
ただ、正直なところ、オレはそのフィーバーのころにはすでにドイツにいて、しかもネットをほとんど遮断(正確にはほとんど見れなかった)していたころの話題なので、“オグシオ”というフレーズしか知りませんでした。
むしろ、信太郎と組むことになったちょっと有名な子、くらいにしか認識していませんでした。
最初に会ったのは、3年くらい前のドイツオープンに来たときだったかな。
信太郎の激励に車を3時間くらい走らせてザールブリュッケンっていう街まで行ったときでした。
話の流れでイケシオとトレーナーの人と一緒に食事したのですが、すっぴんで颯爽と登場した玲ちゃんはそれはそれはかっこよく美人でした。
なんていうか、良い意味で凄く男前って言うか、めっちゃ爽やかな風を吹かす子だなぁっていうのが第一印象。
それがきっかけで玲ちゃんとも仲良くなったんだけど、やっぱり単身海外で奮闘するオレを、1人の人間としてリスペクトしてくれたから、玲ちゃんとも信頼関係が築かれていったんだろうなって思います。
この2人がペアを組んでから、ドイツオープンやオランダオープン、スイスオープンなど、ヨーロッパの戦いは可能な限り、応援に駆けつけました。
彼らはたくさんある海外遠征の１つだったと思うけど、オレにとっては“仲間”が世界で戦う姿を身近で応援出来る機会。
信太郎の悩みも玲ちゃんの悩みもたくさん聞いてたし、応援に来てくれたら心強いし嬉しい、とはっきり言ってくれる2人ですから。
とにかく力になれるなら、って感じでした。
そんな2人が今、この4年間目指してきた最後のステージ、オリンピックの舞台に立っています。
一時期はオリンピック出場も危うくなるんじゃないかと言われたけど、それでも必死に進んできて、やっとたどり着いた場所。
世界から出場権を得た16ペアが、4組ずつ4つのグループに分かれ、それぞれ総当りで対戦して上位2ペアずつがベスト8に進む形式です。
イケシオの2人はデンマーク、ポーランド、カナダと同組。
グルーピングはかなり運に恵まれたんだそう。
ただ、昨日行われた緒戦で、(ランキング上は格下の)ポーランドに負けてしまいました。
予選グループ突破には残り2試合勝つことが命題。
もはや本当に最後の最後の大一番が迫って来てるんです。
今夜(日本時間だと明日の夜中)に、カナダのペアと対戦です。
大陸枠で出場権を得て来ているので、イケシオが本来のプレーをすれば勝てるはず。
スポーツ選手、特にオリンピックに出ているのですから。
活躍すればヒーロー、ヒロインになります。
逆に負ければ相手にされないか、下手したら批判の対象になる可能性だってあります。
でもオレにとってはそんなの一切関係ない。
彼らはもうすでに、オレにとってはスーパーヒーローであり、スーパーヒロインです。
ただただ大好きな仲間、イケシオのことを、1人でも多くの人に応援して欲しいです。
彼らの奮闘を、皆さんも見守ってくださいね。
